Hey Peeps, For some reason, at 1;21 am today, I have a deep urge to say something profound. Will you listen? To all of you out there that have not taken the leap at writing. Everyone has a story to tell. At least one, amazing, no-other-like it, story. Will you tell yours? Growing up in a large household, I often heard from my dad, “when in doubt, don’t.” I'm not sure where he picked up this little quote, but it has stuck with me FOR EVERYTHING. Shopping. Dating. Trips. For everything thing in my life, if I doubted it, I would pass. My mom taught me to take life in the fast lane. That there wasn't any room for doubt. Can you see what I had to deal with growing up? They were awesomely confusing. My point is... I never doubted writing. It never once crossed my mind. It was as if the world was at my fingertips but I was in control. Safe and deadly all at once. Well, only deadly if you were an evil character in my book and needed to be thrown off a cliff. It was the best of both worlds my parents taught me to live by. Doubt had no place in my creations, so I jumped in head first and became the master. No one ever told me about… “The Muse.” (She's crazy!) Or about the scary, evil, plot blocker. (He needs an attitude check.) *Glares over at him.* "Yeah, I'm talkin' about you." And I was clueless when I got to the end of my first book that it would be awesome, but also sad. Writing is a passion with no room for doubt, just limitless imagination. So, if you have a story to tell, don't wait. Write. Don’t regret it, but do it. The first step is the first word. The next step is getting your story finished. Little by little, day by day. Write it on a computer. On your phone. Hell, on a napkin. Just... start. Nikki Bolvair |
